Plus, is Katherine dying?! This was easily the craziest episode of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ to date, but I’m confident we can make sense of it. Together.
If you found yourself scratching your head during much of The Vampire Diaries‘ Nov. 7 episode, don’t feel too bad. It just means that, unlike most of the show’s characters, you’re human! It was a super-confusing hour, full of doppelgangers and “anchors” and Snooki references — and by the end, a familiar face returned to Mystic Falls to throw a nasty wrench in the gang’s plan to resurrect Bonnie (Kat Graham).
Nina Dobrev: Triple Threat
Let’s get one thing out of the way first: Nina Dobrev is officially the busiest actress on television, Orphan Black‘s Tatiana Maslany aside. We discovered this week that the “anchor” Tessa (Janina Gavankar) has been yammering about for the past two weeks isn’t an object — it’s a person! More specifically, it’s Amara, whom Silas (Paul Wesley) revived with his cure blood. And how did Silas’ former lover repay him? By stabbing him, drinking his blood and becoming mortal, herself! She’s a girl after my own heart, basically.
Oh, and speaking of Tessa’s shady wrongdoings, she restored all of Stefan’s horrible memories this week as punishment for attacking her to free Elena from the cabin. While I enjoyed the flashback montage — Stefan and Elena looked like babies in season one — I’m more excited to see how kicking amnesia is going to affect the spikey-haired Salvatore moving forward.
Which brings me to my next point…
A Dash Of ‘Stelena’
Once again, this week’s episode gave “Team Stelena” a glimmer of hope with several intense Stefan-Elena moments, most of which were orchestrated by sexy puppet-master Tessa. The whole reason Elena rushed off to the cabin was because Tessa inferred she was hooking up with Stefan — jealous much? — and that was just the start.
When Tessa told Damon (Ian Somerhalder) he had to kill Silas, or she’d kill Elena, Stefan stepped in and saved her life. Elena had just made a whole speech about how Damon always puts her life ahead of anyone else’s, and that’s exactly what Stefan did by challenging the ancient witch. To add to the epic-ness of that decision, he was punished by having his bad memories re-injected into his brain. So not only is he a lover; he’s a martyr!
The final Stefan-Elena moment came at the end of the episode, just before Tessa returned his memory. For the first time in weeks, the former couple shared a genuine moment in one of their favorite locales — the Salvatore mansion! Sure, Damon was chilling in the living room and watching their every move, but that didn’t make it any less genuine.
“Team Delena,” are you worried?
‘The Augustine Vampire’: Is It Aaron?
Surprisingly enough, things weren’t any less crazy over at Whitmore College, where Katherine was busy pretending to be Elena. That’s right, Nina isn’t satisfied just playing three characters; those three characters also have to play each other! She’s truly a visionary, that girl.
Anyhoo, Katherine was bugging out because her hair is turning gray and her teeth are falling out. We still have no idea what’s going on with her, but Dr. Maxfield (Rick Cosnett) is hot on the case… you know, when he’s not busy being tied up and interrogated by Caroline (Candice Accola). Vampire Barbie was able to get some juicy info. out of the good doctor, including that the college’s secret society — ominously called “Augustine” — also has its own bloodsucker, also ominously called “the Augustine vampire.”
Doing her best Elena impression, Katherine crashed an Augustine party, where she encountered Aaron (Shaun Sipos), who was acting super-weird. Does anyone else think he might be this “Augustine vampire,” or would that be too obvious? I mean, Dr. Maxfield is clearly the one creating these vampires — hello, Jesse (Kendrick Sampson)! — and he’s supposed to be Aaron’s “father,” despite being way too young to actually be his dad.
I’m calling it. Aaron’s a vamp.
