After lots of speculation, it’s finally official! KStew’s fave designer will succeed Marc Jacobs as the new artistic director of the brand’s ready-to-wear collection. Are you excited for his new gig? VOTE!
The guessing game is now over! For months now there has been lots of talk about who would take on the role of artistic director at Louis Vuitton — and now we finally have an answer. The big reveal is no shock to the fashion world as Nicolas Ghesquiere was named the new artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s women’s ready-to-wear collection on Nov. 4. Critics and fashion lovers alike were stunned with Marc Jacobs ‘ announcement that his Spring 2014 collection will be his last for the luxury brand, but they’re also excited to see Nicolas in his new role!
Nicolas Ghesquiere Named Louis Vuitton Artistic Director:
Nicolas’ first collection for the brand is set to debut on the runway in March 2014, where he will unveil his Fall 2014 line for Louis Vuitton. You have to admit that Nicolas was a likely choice! Now that he’s officially in at the fashion house, we have to wonder — will he enlist his pal Kristen Stewart to star in a campaign?
KStew has always raved about the designer, (especially after working with him on her first campaign at Balenciaga), and the admiration goes both ways! Given their appreciation for each other we wouldn’t be surprised to see the star snag a campaign once her contract is up at Balenciaga.
Everyone was shocked when Nicolas cut ties with Balenciaga in late 2012, a label he worked with for 15 years. At the fashion house he had the honor of transforming Balenciaga into a top luxury brand — and he essentially grew up there himself, having signed on in 1997 at the tender age of 26. His creative ideas have attracted a huge following in the entertainment industry among stylish stars likeNicole Ritchie, Mary-Kate Olsen and fashion mentee Kristen Stewart.
Marc Jacobs Exits Louis Vuitton:
While Nicolas is a visionary in the field, Marc certainly made his mark at Louis Vuitton after a successful 16 years with the brand. He decided to leave to turn his focus on his namesake line.
The brand is excited about the new partnership, stating in a release that the designer will bring: “a modern, creative vision to the house’s women’s collections, building on the values of refinement, savoir faire and extreme quality.” And Nicolas is also thrilled about his new role!
“Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation and exploration. I am very honored of the mission that I am entrusted with, and proud to join the history of this great maison. We share common values and a vision,” he said.
We are very excited to see what Nicholas is going to bring to Louis Vuitton next fall, but what do you think? Are you excited for his debut and do you hope he brings along his pal, KStew?
